Hello dear humanity,
For those of you who are new to this space…I don’t just spend copious hours sharing my historical and political analysis on here… <this> space was first created at the top of 2020 as a place where I could document myself in a total way. The highs and the lows, all the realities that haunt me. Named after my first book, a book of poems, “How To Cure A Ghost,” this newsletter became a place of refuge, a place where my articulation was valued. I’ve said this before, but to be read, in any format, feels like a form of dedication. Something, I guess, I seek.
It makes me think of Simone Weil’s famous quote: “Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity.”
Writing has always been one of the only ways I am truly seen. Being read is an attention I have always craved, and I feel lucky to receive it. Many years ago, as a teenager in Australia, almost twenty years ago, I realized, if nobody would (or could) give me the life I so despeartely wanted… I knew I would have to dream a life into existence, so I absorbed art, film, writing and started a philosophical debate with myself - who was I? I pushed myself to places intellectually, I challenged myself and my own memory, my own ideas and I started documenting those ideas, those poems, those writings... on the internet. That was the first and maybe safest place I ever felt for my own thoughts and words. Now I understand that it was through this honest expression that I also began to famiarize myself with my voice.
Thirty Things is a tribute to you, dear reader, but it’s also a tribute to my own survival. In a world where I have found it hard to find love, I have turned to my own personal curiosities to help aid me in believing in something more for myself and humanity.
The student revolution in Bangladesh just this week made me believe in future possibilities that I haven’t in a long while. Sure, there are fears that the vacuum for revolt always brings in space for shitty unprincipled shit to happen, but Palestine is clarifying so much for all of us. What would a world without Zionism or capitalism look like? What would it look like for Congo to be free? What would it look like for Sudan to be free? For Tigray? For West Papua? What would it lool like for resource extraction from Haiti to Bangladesh to end and shift so that those resources that are exported at pennies are actually used to feed the local population? Can we believe in a future without resource extraction for the rich and the elite? I believe we can have a beautiful and liberated future, for everybody! I don’t think corporate or capital interests can dominate our future—I do think these infrastructures will begin to collapse due to climate change. So, what does our collective liberated future look like? I want you to really visualize it in your mind, then I really want to feel it in your body. What does it look like for a free Gaza to prosper? What does a world where Zionism, Nazism and white supremacy no longer exist (because we know these things are taught, as is racism) so what would it mean to actually shift, heal, evolve away from supremacist and hateful attitudes toward each other?
I think it’s time to evolve babes… and so do the stars.
Today is Lion’s Gate Portal, where the Sun in Leo is in alignment with the star Sirius, Orion’s Belt and Earth. This happens when Sirius "rises" or becomes visible again due the Sun's yearly passing of the star. This is one of the most auspicious times in the spiritual calendar to manifest. On a powerful day, what are you manifesting to greater serve humanity? What are you embarking on for the sake of liberation?
