Tuning Into the Wisdom of Your Body
A writing + somatic workshop to help you access your inner story with Ev’Yan Whitney + Fariha Róisín
In times of such severe disassociation, we forget that our bodies are entry points for revolutionary work. When we are disembodied, it’s harder to liberate ourselves from our past, as well as our traumas, and to work towards a liberated future.
I believe this is colonial conditioning, making us too entrenched and complacent with our pain and depression that we become compliant and lazy to capitalism. When we are stuck in ourselves, stagnant with our bodies, it’s easier for us to forget the responsibility we have to our kin to shift and metabolize in order to integrate the lessons we are given.
I’ve been writing about this for a long time, but you cannot liberate others if you can’t liberate yourself — it’s very simple and very self-explanatory. I see many of us are burnt out, confused, stuck in our anger that we end up perpetuating these small violences in all kinds of relationships, but what if we were to sit with ourselves with more intention and unlock what we are trying to tell ourselves?
Remember: it’s easier to act with action and integrity when you know who you are.
What if we are more than just our pain and that our bodies are our gateways to understand ourselves deeper and better? So much of this work is what I found through research when I wrote Who Is Wellness For? and through conversations over the last few years with my friend, fellow writer and somatic practitioner, Ev’Yan Whitney, we’ve come to an understanding that it is time for us to unlearn disassociation and disconnection and hear what our somatic selves/cells are telling us… in order to move towards the future in these revolutionary times.
More than ever before, we are a sick society suffering under global capitalism, multiple genocides, and climate collapse. This is an offering for us to become more patient and tuned in to what our bodies are telling us, to do the work we need to do to become who we are.
