Writing With Vulnerability In Mind
~ an online writing workshop series from Oct 19th, Oct 26th and Nov 2nd ~
I was recently reading Andrea Gibson (rest in peace) and their beautiful stance on vulnerability, which they had written about in their Substack: “I came across a video about the Octopus titled: Why Are We the Pinnacle of Evolution and Not Them? The film was, from my perspective, a celebration of the power of vulnerability, as it begins with this sentiment: “Having a protective shell makes species evolve very slowly. For example, turtles have stayed virtually unchanged for millions of years.” I loved learning that octopi have evolved at lightning speeds because of their vulnerability. The fact that they were shell-less, soft, and defenseless was exactly why they became one of the most evolved species on earth, overhauling their entire being to survive.”
Vulnerability is an underrated skill, but it’s also about when to be vulnerable and when to put up a shell. As a teacher once told me, it’s about being firm-backed and soft bellied. I have had to become better at standing my ground, which, as an open-hearted person, has felt dangerous. I was conditioned to give more, so limitations felt wrong. This meant I was always in a cycle of depletion. Now, I understand that my vulnerability is for myself, more than it is for others. It’s how I understand if people are compatible with me, but even still… it’s less about will I be understood and more is this something I need to express in this moment, and if yes, how can I be authentic?
Learning how to be vulnerable, but also that vulnerability is a superpower, not something to be discouraged or maligned.
This workshop will be short, only a three-course workshop, but I hope you can join me. There are limited spots to maintain the integrity of the vulnerability shared in the space. I hope to see you there sweet ones!

There will be community guidelines we all agree to in the beginning. I believe safe spaces are nurtured, not inherent, and it’s my imperative to ensure a safe space as deep things are often ruptured in this space.
Coming to class means showing up for everyone as well as yourself, and a true investment in community care, which prioritizes compassion and kindness at all times—as well as transparency to self and the class.
If you want to apply, please email me below with why you want to attend this class. This is important:
